I’m sitting here on my seat, with a newspaper in my hand
Watching reflections of a past I don’t understand
A half done crossword pencilled in above a cryptogram
And written cross the comics is a song of a broken man
[Chorus]
Can the train go back, can the train go back
I’ve run off the tracks, and fallen through the cracks
Of my own stupidity, that’s come crashing down on me
Can the train,
Go back for me
The train keeps on moving, and the clouds fill the sky
No need to be a-raining, cause there’s water in my eyes
No need to fill no suitcases with the memories left behind
Cause the times we had together keep on filling up, up my mind
Chorus
The train keeps on moving, churning at my feet
My blood is pounding through me, and my head is getting weak
My heartbeat wants to cry out “don’t need no place to roam”
If I find you there, in the front porch chair
Will you shut me out, or do you still care
Will you find a place to hold me, if I come back
Come back home
Chorus
@1980’s – wrote this about someone regretting leaving their love, and reworked the chorus decades later to give it a bit more punch. One thing I like about this song is that each verse feels similar, but actually all use different chord structures.
