@1990’s – saw a documentary on alzheimers and it inspired me to write a song about an old man’s devotion to his wife, dealing with dementia in a nursing home. A framed prom photo of them from decades before sits on the bed table – it’s the one thing that seems to help her connect the present to her past.
Don’t know why, when memories die
Some with love survive
And to me, can’t you see
Some always stay alive
On the day, you went away
I found what you were searching for
A place in time, that you could find
When no one could love you more
[Chorus]
Blue eyes and roses, soft satin poses
Bring us back through time
Blue eyes and roses, soft satin poses
I cherish this baby of mine
Blue eyes and roses, as time softly closes
It brings me back to your side
Blue eyes and roses, soft satin poses
Til then, my baby, good night.
I will stay, through each day
Here right by your side
Caress your hair, tell you I care
When you’re lost, I’ll be your guide
So tonight, as each starlight
Shines in endless time
Come with me, and we’ll be
Safe in this heart of mine
Chorus
